I never knew that Quicksilver does 6C33C, they never did when I was still monitoring what companies do. Their Triode Amp was, if I remember correctly, a base PP unit with a pair triode strapped 6L6/KT-88 tubes, where people were trying to put-in many...

Paul,Rather than go SS, perhaps you should consider push-pull tube amps for each of your five 92-93 dB-efficient channels (I assume "channels" means frequency bands, not HT5.1 or similar.) Along with that, consider using a modest amount of global ne...

Romy,I would like to know, if you do not mind to explain, since you cannot drive your bass modules using SET, why you use Solid State amplifiers instead Pentode or Push-Pull Triode?Thanks!...

There are at least three benefits of using a compression chamber in a tapped horn design.1.) When using push-pull woofers with a compression chamber second order distortion is cancelled. This effect is very audible. You must hear it to understand...

Hi thereFor some time its bugging me that compression drivers got a very heavy but odd load of air coupling on the membrane. I saw a scatch here to put ideally 2 Horns on each side of the driveway to balance it. That's obviously not so economically :...

Take a look at the below Dumax Report on the Dayton Titanic Mk III subwoofer.

Of course this is not the woofer I used, but the asymmetry seen in this report i...

Recently, I would say the last 2-3 years, I detected a very foolish tendency that audio people are brewing within themselves. A typical today’s audiofool holds within itself a hope about existing of a “secret”, no discovered yet, SS high power amplif...

Hi Romy,The Vacuumstate amplifier is not a parallel SET it is basically like push pull but with some kind of trick dynamic bias control that keeps the tubes really together. Much of the low level information that gets lost with the usual push p...

With regards to the links, as it happens, I totally agree that 15in Tannoy Reds struggle to handle complex music. The crossover is too simplistic and the cones too hard to control with a low power amp. Reds can be lovely in a simple vintage system bu...

This is the text that John posted a few years back at Triode Mafia. John allowed me to post it here warning that he have learned more about tapped horn since then and hat his opinion might have changed since then. -- *****************************...

Hello Romy, for large SETs price seems to go up exponentially with the power handling (I am sure you know better than me why), so these amps are under strong pressure of having to justify their existence, other than small SETs or pentode push-pull amp...

I looked at the schematic for Herb's 300B SET many years ago. It's been copied and slightly modified by many.... personally, I would not use it for a 300B amp... then again I probably wouldn't use it for a 2A3 or 45 either (I think my input/driver d...

Risking that the topic has already been discussed and that I postin a wrong category (Romy feel free to (re)move this post:Is there any sense in trying 6C33 at higher volatges and lower currents?More precisely, I've been wondering if 1/2 6C33 @ 300-...

An Audio Amplifier Design Philosophy
By David Berning ( Courtesy Meta-Gizmo.com )
I became interested in audio at a very young age because I liked music, but was too uncoordinated to be able to p...

(..in between errands..)In respects to whether or not using both the front and rear energy will work, I will have to listen for myself. As I commented earlier elsewhere in this thread, an arrangement using two drivers may prove to be the better...

I have also a fondness for this design which may well suit your room with the line sunk in your basement. It is interesting that this design makes use of two woofers in push-pull configuration as well as making use of a transmission line. The only tr...
Scott, is it your specific aim to configure an enclosure to "effectively" lower driver Fs? While this, along with an exponential increase in power, is a proven strategy for generating ULF, it seems like this approach creates more...

The ECL82 = 6BM8 was used a lot in low-end amps, both push-pull and single-ended. Actually, according to your radio's schematic to which you posted a link, they are not being used "one per channel," rather it is a mono radio (nothing wrong with that...

Hi Romy…and fellow audio nutters. I’ve bitten the bullet, and shifted from BLH to front-loaded. Yes, I was an idiot, a moron for not doing this sooner. My project is ‘humble’ by Romy’s standard…but I feel it meets the following objectives I h...
Are your observations regarding the ZH270 relating to comparisons with other push pull designs or SET's?
Well, both push-pull and SET and also some transistor designs as well, as I used to be quite a fan of Nelson Pass an...

I don't know how many coils it has. The XV-1 is their flagship product and costs a bundle, probably $3k to $5k. Everyone I spoke to guessed the splendidness is due to the shape of the diamond (I believe they merely say "line-contact"...

Hi,
As to the best transformers souding more transparent than the best resistors, I'll believe it when I (don't?) hear it. You claim to have heard this but I most certainly haven't.
Well, the claim is no...

actually I agree with Romy, to a degree.... If the amplifier is a push pull device, using my output and input splitter devices of course, then an interstage transformer is a much better choice than rc coupling. Using transformers designed to the crit...

Hi Romy,Not sure exactly what you mean by SET-minded speakers. Please elaborate on that issue. I don't quite see what about your horns would make an OTL perform any worse than a SET. What I proposed to you, the concept of a OTL SET ...

Hi,
Thanks for the info about transformers. It is as I expected, however, that these passive devices are not passive sonically at all. I agree with you that the higher quality of the transformers should lessen the effects I noted (if not elimi...

Romy, in the contrary, it is very unfair to compare my 845 amp with the 6C33C. The main reason is the 845 amp used the best output/interstage transformer available, while the 6C33C's output xformer is pretty good but far from being best for the 6C33C...

I do not know what it is all about as I’m under impression that it you socialize with people on dB-design forum then they will be more responsive about your excitement. I’m not quite sure what the SWING is all about as the guy mentioned and descried ...
