The Latour is a two way design with a compression horn driver and a 15" stiff paper, short throw woofer....
|
So are the drivers just reworked altec componets with fieldcoils installed? Or are the drivers based on the 288 and 515B design? And you are correct some may not understand this type of workmanship. Can you post a picture of the front of the horn? I ...

More technical data :Designed around the Altec 288 driver
and Altec 515B woofer, the new Latour, standing for "London western
type", has a custom designed and optimized crossover network. Overall
frequency response is rated from 30Hz to 20kHz with...

Well, when we are talking about Cogent we need clearly differentiate two things: the Cogent’s drivers and the Cogent’s installation. The problem is that since Cogent’s drivers are something so called “compression drivers” then their performance might...

OK , so I looked at the April 2008 Stereophile.I noticed a while back that Art Dudley stopped listing his ML2.1s as "assocoated equipment" along with his reviews, listing instead the Shindo Montele and Cortese stereo SETs, and then just the Cort...

Romy's prediction of field-coil speakers as the next move for the industry may already have started in small segment in Japanese market. There's Feastrex and Shindo, then G.I.P Laboratry who specializes in W.E. clones and seems to be gaining a ...

Romy,I find the Veravox 5 drivers are strong contenders when searching for elevated sensitivity 5" drivers. I heard the Veravox 5X in combination with Shindo SET electronics and found it very natural-sounding. Both 5ers have ceramic magnets, how...
Is this thread THAT boring?
Judas,
I patiently wait until you realize that this site is not compatible with audio idiocy. I told you before that you are exactly the person who is a demonstrable illustration of what Audio...

He did note that the ML2.2 uses a different OPT, and also that it uses "less feedback" than the ML2.1 (which AD owned for several years). I wonder what this means, "less feedback"? Why would Lamm mess with that very effective scheme? Does he just ...

Romy, you specifically mentioned Shindo, and this is a well-known example of the "Old Parts School" that seems to be able to channel It. Examples I have heard have all been simpler Music via simpler speakers, so I don't know how it works with big sym...

What your little G.I.P Laboratry does is absolutely irrelevant. They feed already pre-buttered customers and their moves are not important. Shindo and Cogent do the electromagnets for years but they doe little events with no influence. In high-audio ...

Hi everyone,First, thank you for all your advices. The university take many most of my time, so listen to speaker had been difficult.So......I come back with many things too tell, i have made some listening sessions to find a good speaker to work wit...
Well, You really need to figure out what you want out of your speakers. There are some questions I would ask myself if I were in your position:1. You can eliminate a lot of speakers based on their size, sinc...

Well, at the end of the day it is a personal choice. I listened to that WE-Demo at High End 2012 and beside all pros /cons there was a situation which was very unique: The room was always crowded, more smiling faces than in other rooms....of course y...

Vinyl almost died after the launch of CDs, but today the popularity of vinyl playback is on the rise. Music stores are selling more music available on LPs, and many audiogon systems include turntables. So where are the full-function preamps? Before d...

There is a test of the 17 cm Görlich with rubber surrond in the new Hobby Hifi.Very low fs (23 Hz) and low sensitivity (86 db). There is a clear surround resonance, so maybe it would be wise to wait for the announced models with cloth or foam su...

Ok, understood, at least somewhat. Are you suggesting that the S2 operates at the frequencies between 1000hz and 3.6khz? I am not insisting upon using the driver at the frequencies that I was initially suggesting; far from it, actually, as these were...

In the last 10 years I had some chances to visit owners with very expensive Systems (>500.000,-- $) and all they had the same in common:
Absolutely no idea about real High End or Music reproduction and I mean non, nada, nothing, they went to a d...

Yes, it is a common deal and it is possible very frequently to get a bunch of the Vitamins Q for very little money. Thanks God that no one from Sprague pay (paid) to market-makers to drool about the Vitamins’s sound and therefore the wide majority of...

A few years ago playing with my favorite Vitavox S2 driver I was asking myself how it might sound if instead of the Alnico magnet the electromagnets would be used. As many other driver of the period the Vitavox did not utilized the only one magnet ty...
