Sarah Chang last night and Sibelius
The last night there was a broadcast of Marek Janowski leading the San-Francisco Symphony with Sarah Chang playing Sibelius’ Violin Concerto. It was interesting performance and also I might not like it as whole but there was something in there. I do not like everything Sarah Chang did, sometimes she was losing the since of actions and just “rendered the notes” but sometimes what Sarah played was very interesting. She in some few moments (perhaps even accidently) played for a fraction of second “behind” the own tempo, opening the phrases very slightly after my listening consciousness had made them up in my mind. Of course it was not always – the only jaunts were able to do it – but it was a few moments in the Ms. Chang’s play where she actually did it. it was very intrigues “teasing”. I need to look for her more recordings…
