Brass Balls
Yup, it's a growing problem, alright.  Combined with the "just play it" attitude of most contemporary US orchestras, it makes selected performances on LP all the more precious.  It's hard to imagine some of the great, Old School conductors just letting it go.

As for the concept of orchestral "horsepower", I think it is an important ability; but it has to be tied to the ability to render "differences", including ppp, when it's called for.  And the idea that the orchestra listens to itself is certainly to be desired, along with the idea of "evolved" listening skills.

Thanks, Robin.  Nice piece.

Best regards,
Paul S
