Archimago's Musings talks about digital.

If you are interested in the technical aspect of the effects that different D/AC (no-oversampling, no reconstruction filter) and cable (USB, S/PDIF, Toslink) topologies have on signals I recommend you have a look here:

Good article, some mistakes however.

Yes, the author is very accurate in most of his observations. A few mistakes he made. When he said that “I only have a few albums verified to be sourced from an original DSD recording.” Even if the recording were made in DSD then were mastered while doing double-conversion to PCM. Also, most likely there were not 4-bit DSD but 1-bit DSD, which is just insufficient defective format. I also do not like the notion that he brought up that MP3 encoding at 320kbps need to be “compared” to “studio masters”. Sorry, the MP3 are heard and might be identified very instantly. I have hear a few commercial CD that were made from MP3 – a very first bar of listing intently give the idea that it come from digitally compressed source.

BTW, this article is not about “D/AC topologies” and I will rename the thered, I hope you “tuga” do not mind.

PS: The image he used is fenominal.
