6C33C socket types, where to get the ideal one?

Hello everyone,

This seems like the place where the 6C33C experts hang out so I figured I'd ask my question here.

I'm currently collecting parts to build my very own 6C33C amplifier, and I had bought some of the cheap chinese sockets for it and thought it was all I needed. I have since learned those sockets SUCK.

OK, now I have the original NOS Russian sockets you probably all know, but there is a third type of socket out there that I want but can't find.

It's this type:

GSTubes used to sell them but someone bought all their stock and now wants to sell them for €20 euro a piece, and I personally think they are worth no more than €10. Since I need at least four, maybe eight €20 for a socket is not an option.

Now I could go for the Yamamoto teflon sockets but at $50 a pop I'm not to keen on those either.

Can any of the 6C33C lovers out there help me out?

It is not “where to get” but “what to get”.

You might try these:

Still, I think Yamamoto sockets shell be fine. The material of the sockets base – would it be Teflon or anything else is less relevant. You need to wary about the pins profile and how they hold the tube pins. Right sockets will let the pins of your tube to clean them, to make it in a way self-cleanable.

The Johnson’s sockets will do it.

From other perspective and in contrary to what some other people have said in this site I do not feel that quality of the tube socket is so important for this tube. If the socket got burned then get another one once in 5 years and replace it. It is not really a big job or deal. I would pay extra money for sockets only if I have no access to the socket in future (in some layout it might be a case).

Not so much the material that matters to me but the pins

Thanks for your reply Romy,

The Johnson/RCA sockets had crossed my mind.

The reason I'm looking for that specific type is that the contact surface of the pins is so much larger (much like with the Yamamoto).

I could buy yamamoto's and not worry at all, but I'm trying to save a little money here. The ones I posted look very similar to the yamamoto design, only not as fancy (and not as much $$$)

Also I like to make my amp using as much USSR surplus as I can muster. I already have resistors, caps, tubes etc...
