Happy 2026!

Happy 2026! Looking back on 2025 hi-fi, it was all about integrating and developing new speakers for “more stereo”. Naturally (this being hi-fi), as my stereo improved my mono has slipped by comparison. Not to say the mono is “bad”, rather all the terrific stereo “soundstage” significantly overshadows what I get out of mono. I have not yet played much trying to “bring up” the mono, but I have observed that some more modern “mono” records are more “open” played with the K&K knob set to “stereo”, while old mono recordings just sound better on “mono”. I have in mind some things I want to try with mono recordings, but I am not ready to give up the great stereo I enjoyed in 2025, and I will not intentionally take a back step there to showcase mono.>>

Happy New Year
Happy new year 2026,
All audiophiles try to improve the sound even after 30 years of spending money, time and effort and they think they are doing audio but no one has a good sound.
I think we should stop audio in 2026 and try to find a better hobby.
Just kidding

2026 New Year
All the best in 2026. I am focusing my time on listening to pink noise. I do wonder if I have found the best vinyl pressing or CD mastering though. I just grabbed the old Stereopile track but there must be something better out there.

Happy New Year ! You won't have a good sound
with available technology. Aliens have to give it to us. It's hard enough to have a decent sound playing one genre of music or particular part of the genre music like chamber or solo instruments. To have something which plays  well most of genres requires a new technology and not a rehash of 100 years old ideas and pissing on the speaker cone. Good boombox is not so bad to sweeten up a "crushing sense of defeat"I think we should devote 2026 for boombox development SmileAll the best

Alternate Pink:
Steve, probably no help, but FWIW I have used the Hi-Fi News Analogue Test LP for a long while. If you need continuous pink noise, how about a signal generator?

Wojtek,
I'll see your boombox and raise it with my rear wheel drive Chevy's 8 track player playing all your heavy metal favorites.

Way Back, More or Less
Wojtek, are you old enough to remember the old "portable" KLH FM/record players (AKA, Dorm Darlings)? Tons on ebay. A proven way to get more by asking for less. Spark a blunt and Hi Ho, Silver!

Unfair becuase in a light of recent developments of unlimited oil supply I only decided yesterday to buy me a Semi sized pickup truck

My heavy metal favorites are closer to aluminum in heaviness rather than a hairy chest metal...Lost may hair by the age of 18 hence I put all my eggs into "intelectual music" . (Quickly learned that the only sure way to a pantyland is fist full of $$ Smile Everybody in business knows that nothing beats 8 track system in a rear wheel drive , even a boombox Smile
I hope pink noise let you fall asleep after years of nerve wrecking insomnia inducing system tweaks
Paul , I had several of those dorm "all in one" systems passing by. I sold them all thinking  I can do better. Yeah

expressing your concern over my shattered audiophilia nerves. But yes pink noise and my 8 track tape collection have soothed most of the heartache away. As for heavy metal don't you think Varese is the classical version?
Congrats on your new pickup truck. Yes oil is everywhere. I remember my Dad one time recalling a meeting he had with an oil exec. (My Dad analyzed commodity prices.) So he asked him about the long term outlook for oil supply. The exec looked at him and laughed saying: "The entire world is floating on oil." The exec turned out to be the best prognosticator.
