Over longer periods of time the older versions are easier on my ears. You deal with random result. Pretend that ...

I have always thought my old Altec 802's with the concentric ring phase
plug sounded better than my newer 802 G with the Radial phase plug. If i
had to describe the difference i am hearing i would say the concentric
ring style just simply sound...

One advantage of the use of a phase plug in a midbass horn is that it will beam less at higher frequenzies than a horn without phase plug. If the phase plug is designed for the specific horn and driver it will help "steer" the HF.

Dear Romy,
well the horns are actually not designed for HF. The intended working range is up to 5-700. But since we use low Q, only second order filters we want to have a rather large overlap in the crossover region and a fairly even pattern over ...
Well, it was not really a surprise to us that the horn without the phase plug was dissapointing. Without the plug we had a horn that was a bit too short, had too large front cavity and less compression than we desired.
Hello, Ulf.
Interesting. The TAD1201H is 12-incher with resonant frequency of 50Hz. It has relatively low resonant frequency for 100Hz Tractrix midbass but you most like used 10” thought and consequentially shorter horn. The shorter horns beam...
A few years ago we discovered the tractrix horn for MF use. It was really the most important improvement so far. No more honking exponential horn sound. The improvement was so clear that A/B testing was not needed.
Hello,This is my first post to this site, which I have been absorbing for over a year.A horn project that I have been considering would include either a 1 inch or 1.5 inch throat compression driver into a Tractrix profile horn of which I have not yet...

John, I disagree.
No one deny the importance of harmonics and you are right saying that “If a speaker does not reproduce the harmonics correctly, then the tone is not reproduced correctly.” However you are talking about a complete speaker, not...

Something they mustve obviously done better than others using beryllium. Judging the sound. In a positive way. The lower 3 are titanium, but all upper 3 are 4/3/2 inch BE sourced from truextend. The suspensenion however is soft and allows excursion.I...
Little suggestion should all else fail - you could have a rudimentary phase plug machined that would give you the same (or similar) compression ratio as the original but only one annular exit path. This might preserve the driver char...

I've only had the pleasure of listening to 'professional' horns (whatever 'professional' really stands for)--horn normally used in concerts and small venues. (It was always so obvious to me--by listening--that the range of the horn-loaded 'bass...

I’m glad you talk about geometry, but to respond to this I have to refer to other brands. I will only talk about facts and hope it’s not offending anybody. My basic point is: the flare rate has to be coherent right from the entrance of phase plugs. In...

electronluv do's not have the ability to make beryllium diaphragms or the legal stuff to even buy raw beryllium i bet with a little surfing you may find the companys diaphragms i use .Yes 3.25" is to help get beter HF extension but to also get a very...

The direction of lansing was the main factor of speakers not W.E. Just look at the phase plug on the W.E HF drivers and look at the phase plug on the lansing Hf drivers this is were it all went down hill. Your mid and Hf drivers from lansing took the...

I did not like the two slit configuration of the phase plug..but the five to one compression ratio produced low distortion,,,but i was not impressed with its bandwidth,,,JBL also used a eight inch speaker assembled to a special phase plug,, You will...

I think this is the one w/ the ribbon driver . Seems more innovative than contemporary Western Electric approach. That is the planar driver would not require a phase plug ?Western Electric's mid 1930's phase plug passes sound thru narrow slits and ot...

John, I am bit puzzled with your response. I do not know what would be a proper material for cone/dome of diaphragm. The source where “tone” is born in compression drivers is absolute mystery to me and I in my holly naiveté believe that no one else k...
