I had recently a guy in my listening room and he asked me if it would be possible to get the 300Hz range in the way how it sounds in my room but without using those larger uppe...

Hi again Romy. This is the thread I referred to above. It is in the Knowledge Tree section. What do youdefine as the melody range? You seemed to think the ported enclosure was OK in that thread and I aminterested in how I might implement the idea...
Middle C is 256 Hz, high C is twice that -- hence we have what musicians call "the melody range", roughly 200-500 Hz. That ain't bass!
Actually it is. It is what I call upper-bass. The upper bass and bass are totally...

Romy, are you sure the unborn fetus is exposed to sounds in the 200-400 Hz range? I think it's more of 30-200 Hz (conducted sounds of mother's heartbeat and footsteps). I think babies are also sensitive to these range of sound: they sometimes fall in...

It can be clearly seen the importance of the upperbass octave, which is very smartly called "melody range" :...

Ok, how to start. First of all we have to understand that out subject of attention will be a region between approximately 80Hz and 500Hz or something that shape the fundamentals of the “melody range” within your playback. Search my site I have writte...

I really notice the absence of any discussion of the melody range. Tannoy tweeter and red midbass seem to be getting all of the attention. I wonder if the reds problem with loud, may be located in the melody range. The problem is something I would pr...

Here's a threeway with the BMS coax like in your orpheans nested in what i think is a 80hz horn which is driven by 2x15"sI'm not sure how well the time alignment works. I think the woofers are a bit too far back.in any case:http://www.codaaudio....

I think that single speakers are a good start, not the means to an end.Romy, you are very adamant about the PROCESS. Gain experience, make changes based on what you learn. Is it not sensible to start with ONE DRIVER and learn its strengths and weakne...

Charlus,As you expressed here this would be an End of life speaker project, and I am sure you will not fancy any other speaker once you start with this, even Vox Olympian etc. Yes it will take a lot of money and a lot of time, but you will have fun...

I see that Eugenie’s installation did not create in people to think about it, I think it is unfortunate.
Here are some important points of Eugenie’s installation:
1) Use instead of good drivers a large amount of mediocre drivers. By do...

de Charlus,I don't think that you are taking the posts the way that they were meant.Your initial post started with a collection of what you consider to be the finest drivers for specific tasks. That is just fine and you may well be correct. The real j...
The SIlbatone room was very large. They played an Edith Piaf record on a mono WE16B (or A, not sure). They played it very loud which I don't like, ever. I felt the system was made to show dynamics and it did it. The dynamic r...

Paul, you are missing the point. When I said about “tilted” response it is still a "flat response". If your 10kHz-2 octaves has minus 1-2dB over your 30Hz +2 octaves then it is VERY flat, way flatter than normal deviation of most playbacks out there....

Trying to explore the upper bass channel reaching up to a Victor Sierra 360 Hz horn with an Altec 804 with a 4 uF oilcap, I first used my OB Supravox 215, then a B&C 8" woofer in a large BR originally used with EV 15" (the latter not good) ...

The first and the bigger thing that I like about them is that Anima is trying to use the vertical-horizontal configuration where the bell of the vertical horn serves as frame for horizontal channels. I love this idea and had a number of my own th...

Romy, I recognize and appreciate the very specific points you make but I am instead referring only to your last observation about "the harmonic deficiency of playback in the melody range", and I was just trying to shoehorn this idea in...

I ran across this site quite a while ago http://rh-amps.blogspot.de and decided to have a go at building one of Alexs amps. The idea of using a real pentode the way it was originally designed for appealed to me.
I had a chance to get some 307A tubes...
