(Romy feel free to move this post)[quote user="Paul S"]N-set, I understand you do not mean to hijack the thread with the Axiom, so I actually tried to make generic and/or thread-related observations. I don't know the 6E5P, but generic issues with sp...

Paul, would you think 6336 will be more stable/predictable?Have you had any experience with it?30H: sorry, forgot to mention that the PP pair is autobiasedwith a common 900R resistor...EL34: indeed it's a very popular tube for driving Stax electrosta...

Thank you Romy! Actually I've realized that when I wrote it I rather ment dynamical stability then frying the outputs. But in proper PP the even order harmonics are strongly surpressed, sothere should be no or very little change of the output OP due ...

Paul, don't get me wrong--normally I'm not choosing a tube by the power, but this situation is somehow special. There are very few tubes which have the right electrical parameters (gm, mu, power, etc) to start with. In thesmall tubes word one can glaz...

N-set, I understand you do not mean to hijack the thread with the Axiom, so I actually tried to make generic and/or thread-related observations. I don't know the 6E5P, but generic issues with specific DC tank circuits and driver and output tube stab...

Paul, my headphones are electrostats that need a separate driver. I use Blue Hawaii amp with a quad EL34. The preamp has a direct output from the selector switch, which will be connected to the headphone amp....

Paul, I've managed to glue the image:`Diodes or resistors is absolutely secondary to me, I wanted to trythe main idea. You seem to have good experiences with EL34, right?Cheers,jk...

I don't know the 6336, but EL34 used correctly will sound like its driver tube, not to mention the comparative ease of PP scheming. Sure, you need the voltage; but this to me only underscores the low ESR angle. And who needs an inductor/transformer...
|
Romy, may I ask you why you've employed an autobias on 6E5Pin Milq's MF rather than your biasing technique (if there is any reason at all)?Paul, I don't think I'm following you, but anyway I didnot want to analyze the Axiom, but rather learn about 6E5...

Decoud (and others), where do you source big Nichicon caps, pref. in EU?I'm slowly preparing to attack a Staxquiades - a mastodont Milq inspiredamp to power Stax headphones (PP 6E5 DC to PP 2A3/300B/EL34). I need 10.000uF/500V and 10.000/350V caps.Mo...

....may work here as small dis-sincronizations in pumping the current should not matter at ULF.But how much God would be in 121478521785 parallel KT2318 tubes?1/121478521785?One, max two big tubes is still more appealing to me, don't ask me why.I'm t...

I have never used EL34 in triode, but I think it is not hard to find acceptable examples of this fast, reliable tube, and with conservative bias it should let your 6E5P "shine through", if that's what you want. Nothing like 811, 845, etc. in this re...

N-set, I am tired right now but I think part of the "idea" is that all the parts will be perfect, with extremely low distortion into radar range, including specially chosen diodes, not to mention the big caps and wide-swinging Ls. And where will the...

I just visited the Highend in Munich and had the chance to listen to two of those monster SETs. Cessaro showed up with monstrous 833 amps and my thought was that there is something wrong with the music. I know it is common in this forum to describe w...

Paul, below is the Axiom. I must say I've never heard it nor know anything about the objectives behind the amp. I've just found the topology very elegant and appealing. As far as I understand, the diodesare used for biasing rather than resistors beca...

Someone please jog my memory by naming some previous true Class A1 SE pentode amps, since I can't for the life of me recall any. This might actually work pretty well if targeted for LF! Adjustable "feedback" could help tons with Z matching, a very ...
|
N-Set, I don't know about the 6C33C for tying directly to a load like that, if only because of its propensity to drift all over the place. My own limited experience with this tube suggests that there is indeed a "sweet spot", but I am pretty sure yo...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]The concept of self-testing boot cycle is nice one but it for sure could not be done during the amp booting. Some tubes do need to warm up and reach the cruse temperature in order to be tested, some do not. Some tunes (lik...

I have tried the 307A in triode connection in the "standard" no feedback moron 12Axx (in my case 12 AT7) easy configuration with a coupling capacitor and it was "nice". Critical listening was almost impossible, I kept zapping around to find more "imp...

This thread has triggered some old stupid sentiments. Feel free to remove this post if irrelevant. I've been thinking how to rationalize my old design in the present context and make it less idiotic.First, know the enemy. I don't know the enemy. I as...

Paul, 100% agreed on the real world test vs all other mental exercises!!!Not sure on what do you mean by the "follower"?Yes, I need only 2 stages, perhaps TVC at the input. I'll even have a bit too much gain, if I'm correct.Romy style bias on 6E5P an...

I'm about to do what amounts to building a new system. What i'd like to do is build/acquire a set of amps that can be hotrodded if-you-will in the vein of the melquiades re: channel tuning.my goals from a technical/mech perspective are the following: ...

N-set, actually, I have seen a stacked-L schematic like you posted, with stacked caps layered over and R at earth for the tank, and I am on record as saying it is very elegant. So, sorry to be such a skeptic, but I learned a long time ago that the o...

This whole 833 A2 concept, given the constraints,is a no go. When driven positive, the grid equivalent resistance drops down to 1/transconductance level. For 833, being a high-gm tube, this can be as low as 100R. In order not to distort significantly ...

As to the best transformers souding more transparent than the best resistors, I'll believe it when I (don't?) hear it. You claim to have heard this but I most certainly haven't. Based on theoretical arguments the noninductive metal film r...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]Tax what are you willing to accomplish by DSETing Avantgarde Duo? As far as I can see in any playback action and decisions it shall be a straight line of sight to some kind of objectives. What objective you have in your min...

This is something I've been chewing on for quite some time and finally decidedto make it happen: a serious Stax headphone amplifier.I hope I can use this space as a sort of a blog-report on the progress...if not feel free to remove. I've been "forced...

Hi,[quote user="morricab"]Thanks for the info about transformers. It is as I expected, however, that these passive devices are not passive sonically at all. I agree with you that the higher quality of the transformers should lessen the effects ...
