I always was under observation that musicians use different techniques - they do not listen played back music but they rather register the pointers to keys and intervals and then they reconstruct in their consciousness the ...

That is certainly a new idea. Unless it is really easy to take it out and start over, I would not do it. I just have no idea whether or not it will work without making noise. I have always just used mathematical calculatio...

Recently, I have become aware of a strange phenomenon after lifting the tonearm at the end of the run-out groooves. The record surface noise keeps going when the stylus is no longer in contact with the record. I am using a Garrard 301 with SME 3...

Hi Dima,Do you know if this is similar to the approach Tim de Paravicini took in his direct-coupled amp placed inside a Quad? I'm currently using Quad speakers (I gave up on the horn approach through sheer frustration) and it seems to me that this is...

There are many ways to deal with EAR-843PT. To my ears it works wonderfully, this in my case it coupled with Expressive Technologies ET2 transformer that probably takes in totally new league. I kind of so addicted to this transformer that I even run ...
it would be great to lower the noise level of the vacuum, by any means available. Perhaps NG might have used quieter components and/or designed it differently. However, I see no practical way to remote the motor for the disc-sp...

Kodomo, what is your ear height when you are sitting in your listening chair? I guess it is less than 120cm. Perhaps when you finish setting up the horns and remove the wheels effectively lowering them you may be in the position of lowering the twee...
In regular off the shelf hi-fi system , be it a total lack of LF in your speakers or the "pinch" of dome tweeters or the midrange mud. Romy like all of us throws money on the problem and he usually chooses well regarded and...

Do you think you would lose the ability to hear stereo properly and that for the Van Gogh type person Mono is as sufficient as stereo? I am not sure that there is, deep down, that much of a difference between properly implemented mono and properly im...

The very much non-definitive EAR 834P Modification Guide by Loesch Thorsten
Hi,Given that Romy already let the proverbial Cat out of the Bag (pun intended) I think I may have to make good here....
The EAR 834P is a very simple, but rather smartly ...

I recently could not pass up a good deal on a EAR 834P MM, so I will have the opportunity to compare it to my current phono stage. It is funny since I had planned to listen to EAR phono stage in my system about 10-15 years ago when I lived in Santa M...
I think that the perception of the Onyx depends on the rest of one's stereo system and the other components one compares it to.When I say the Koetsu is one of the top cartridges in the world, I would say this about most modern aud...

So apparently Jordi is some kind of professional musician. I find it is very interesting that I have met a lot of professional musicians and have seen a few post comments on this website. Does anyone else notice that their preference in a...

How is one sure of finding/matching the actual turnovers used for the recording, since, as you mention, the labels don't always tell the whole story?Or is this just another way to fiddle with the sound?Does the switching get/stay out of the...
First, it seems like the tubes are starved. They are running very low current. The 12AX7 is also at low voltage. I'm guessing they are running at about 0.3mA at 65V plate. This operating point is way down...
I have had +/- the same thoughts about gear for some time....
Yes, many of us in one or another state of our audio progress come to the desire to retire from specific audio desires but in my desire to retire my references...

As for the EAR834 Air itself, while calibrating I've noticed I always get a a delicate MF recess, no matter what I do:(neverming the HF roll-off--it's my cheap card, I'll scan it with SG505-HP400FL when I mount them)Can it be that this slight recess ...
