Roman, the reformation of capacitors is an unswer in many cases. Those, who use BG - have to spend approximatly the same time to bring the system to the proper sound, but your mind is not SO corrupted. You use relatively big tanks o...
Well, the StormTank is currently is being sold for $30K.
Oh well, I can forget about buying one to try it out...
The PurePower has a bank of caps that shunt the battery. Intellectually, it
You point out that if a capacitor can hum it is faulty and wound improperly.
You are absolutely correct - the way a capacitor is wound will determine if it can hum or not. Unfortunately almost all capacitors on the m...

I am now involved in incredibly interesting project (tell you later about it what have firm result) where I need to use a between stages a cap that cares 1V and practically no current. The best film caps that I tried were 100V-400V and they actually ...

I am getting a dedicated third amp to drive my upper bass channel and I just figured out that when I go with my midrange channel at the line level passive filter then I would need 0.0000302uF capacitor against the amp's input stage, that means… 30pF…...

So does this mean that input capacitance must stay steady and/or especially low for the RIAA values to work properly? And must gain tubes also operate more-or-less steady-state, with a low output impedance?Sorry if these are lame questions; ...

Romy,I used second tube grid resistor, 1.8Meg Holco. (I couldn't find 2 Meg chip and good quality resistor: Dell RN60D or Holco or even Caddock MK-132.)But I felt the deep bus was cut. I tried 1.8Meg Holco & Riken 220K in serial. The deep bus inc...

It sounds as though C10 is OK and correctly connected. C2 is OK as well considering it is in parallel with a 30k resistor. The next thing I think, is to turn on the amplifier with both tubes in place and check the current through R21. If R21 and henc...

Hi Romy,I hope I got this right when going through this long thread with LOTS of information. Did you mention for upper-bass cross-overs Elko’s (electrolytic) only to be your preference? If I have it right, any special preference at all as ...

Romy, I understand that at some stage you trialled a number of different capacitors and settled upon Electrocube 950B/D not necessarily for the Melquiades but perhaps for some other project. I was wondering if you ever experimented with different co...
Hi Max,If you have buzzing that is audible outside the PurePower case, or audible from a listening position, the behavior is not normal. The probable source is a capacitor. Caps can hum in the same way as transformers - the fo...

In the world or audio you
learn new and interesting facts every day.
AC caps (ceramic, electrolytic, polyester and polypropylene metallized foil types) can buzz at various frequencies.
This is not nonsense, and is quite normal behav...

I have been contemplating for a week if I need to drain the power caps in my new revision of my power amp. The benefits to live the voltage in there is the cap continue formatting what the amp of off and it minimize the need to break-in or to train t...
What specific objectives did the air caps address in the circuit? You refer to the tempted virtue sound but I am unsure as to the goals that you were trying to achieve with this circuit alteration?
Adrian,
I have reason to suspect that my beloved large Cardas couplers have continued to loose HF past the point I described as "settling".
Well, it might just be the electricity, but if you need to replace them, maybe it is time ...
then everyone here will just read, "gullible". However I admit to being totally hypnotized by the Duelund spiel, which I find oddly compelling despite no real, "serious" information apart from the sort mystical, quasi-reverential...

I think industrial grade Arcotronics KP172 (from RS components ?), film and foil. I use them also as output coupling caps (2x0,47u)

Ok, understood. By the way, Dayton Metallized Polypropylene capacitors are fine for this experiment right? I don't have to buy expensive ones just to have a good idea of the passive crossover sound quality? I hope not.-Herman...

I do not think Genn is close to an answer, he spent too much time to read the Lehnitsky’s brain-massage that made him to feel this way.
I am sure that there are some kinds of very pragmatic, predicable and manageable explanations for the effect that...

Romy, I have futzed around with caps more than I should have, mostly because they so obviously affect the sound, no matter where they are in the circuit. In general, it seems like the best bet is to keep the values as small as possible, an...

Here is a stupid need of DIY audio level. As many of you know am big lover of Nichicon electrolytic capacitors, even their lowers grade sounds right to me and never made to think about anything better. Still the Nichicon never stopped to surprise me....

I am not sure who those people are. It might be Arthur Loesch or someone who cashes out on Arthur Loesch… it might be whoever and I have no idea about the credibility and seriousness of those people. I heard Arthur Loesch does not do Audio anymore, s...
Romy, I imagine it is irrelevant but have you found a difference between lower and higher voltage versions of the Electocube 950 series in the coupling capacitor position in the full range Melq? I ask because a stock of 1000V has...
The re-charged cap works fine but changing the cap polarity by re-recharging is while it handles the signal is not a very good idea in my view. All that dialectic in the cap needs to be re-polarized – it sound too unattract...

I have read once again the explanation of the Melq's project and find 2 interesting things:- load for full range amp should be 1200 Ohm - that is very good for the tube and provides good damping,- capacitors in case of LF channel - 20000 uF (!). The ...

Thanks, jk
I have given a lot of thoughts to this topic lately and have a number of conversations with various people about the subject. A friend of mine from Europe, who is currently at fitness protection program, suggested that:
