Well, I never head this work but there was something the picked my curiosity.

A year or so ago I read Richter’s book that combined his autobiography and dairies.  Generally I’m not fond of Richter and his autobiography in this book was expectedly revoltingly hideous. However, his dairies were quite interesting. The dairies were shaped as his short observations, starting from his very young age and to the very end, about most of his listing sessions, would they be live performances or recordings…

Anyhow, in his autobiography, when he shared a lot about people and music, he multiple times pointed to this Prokoviev’s composition. Interesting that he refers to it not only as to an absolutely best Prokoviev ever composed but also almost as to the most exceptional and extraordinal musical piece even was created.

I thought that no mater how low it high my esteem to Prokoviev and to Richter but I still would like to familiarize myself with this work…

Brain, thanks. It looks like it’s it. I certainly will be ordering this CD. It would be more interesting to hear how the guys from past did this work. Stalin died in 1953 and before his death there were a lot of good conductors who most  certainly did performe this peace… not to mention that many contemporary Russians singers sing in a very idiosyncratic way that their sing sounds like a triple transaction from English into Chinese and then into a corrupted Russian…

I have no access to the Melodia records. Who I had in my mine was Nikolay Golovanov, who was, as far as I concern, a conductor-geniuses. Golovanov  generally is one of the my the most beloved conductors  and he actually conducted the first performance of this Prokofiev’s work.

I was able eventually to get a recording of this Prokoviev Oratorio, thanks Brian.

I do not know... it is a wonderful work. I would not call it ingénues as Richter did but I have to admit that it does have some VERY VERY VERY interesting moments. It is shame that this composition did not see any exposure.

It was on CD. It plays fine on my machine and looks like on the machines of few others. Something is not kosher with your Media Player configuration.

I do not know or care who else was “impressed”. I heard the peace a few more times and I love it, actually even more then initially. Ironically the way in witch it performed made the worlds hard to understand and it is an unquestionable plus (The lyric in there is unspeakable garbage).
