Is any interesting audio in Philadelphia?

I will be visiting Philadelphia in 2 weeks and I wonder if any interesting, stimulating or worth auditioning installations are available in that town?

The Philadelphia story…
fiogf49gjkf0d
At the light of my trip to Philadelphia I paced a phone call to Peter Breuninger who reportedly lives in the town of the “brotherly love”. Peter Breuninger had found Philadelphia Audio Society years back and I presume is alocal Philadelphia audio guy. I care less about Philadelphia Audio Society – whoever know what the Boston Audio Society is would not have any interest about all. Peter Breuninger  fancies himself as some kind of “professional” audio reviewer and some kind of audio traffic coordinator. I know those peoples very well (all imaginable calibers) and from my perspective their level of audio interests/ expertise are too primitive to take them seriously. However, a few years back Peter Breuninger built an installation with Lamm ML3/L1 and Wilson Alexandria and I thought it might be interesting to hear what Peter Breuninger was able to accomplish with it and what he was trying to express by the virtue of his installation.

I do not have too much expectations hear any overly custom or tailored sound as the comments that I read Peter Breuninger posted at TAS were kind of sophomoric and predictably-generic. Still, he lives with that installation for a few years and he might learn something about Sound. If he did not then I thought my trip might be instrumental for him to help him to think about his Sound.  My call to Peter was to inform him that I will be in Philadelphia and he has an opportunity to invite me. If he do not insist that the result of my visit to be discreet (many industry people do and I do respect their wish) then I will share my thought about Sound of Peter installation.

Frankly, my first reaction was not positive. Instead of asking what I would like to hear and what my given listening session objectives are (it is what I ask when people ask permission to hear my installation) Peter begin to ask me what I do and who my friends in audio are. The poor man did not “get” that I do not care about single soul in audio industry and most likely disgust each single associates he has in his audio business. These people audio-socialize upon faulty pretention premises that they will support and stimulate each other status quo and they feel that this will cure their fears of mediocrity. They build a phony superstructure of “results appearance” and they vigorously guard their little “card castle” from any independent view that is not part of their “protect ted circuits”. I do not know if Peter Breuninger is plugged into all of it (I’m not familiar with him) but I know too many of his associates who are very heavy on it and whom I consider to be a perfect waste of life-form. So, from the perspective of the expectation of our meeting (as he said: I need to consult with his partners”) the chance is slim.

Romy, the nice guy

..... he he :-)
Seriously, I listened some months ago to the LL1 sig. /ML3/Alexandria combination. A perfect example for an expensive mismatch. These Wilson Speakers are a grave for those amps, midrange is ok, but no high frequency area and absolutely no control in Bass.

Breuninger had such a combination for review but he is hardly a guy to get a useful information ("I never listened to a unit I didn't like") from and he is writing in this worlds best forum. There are all those self loving guys who dance around their Hardware Altars, congratulate each other for presenting the latest expensive sonic BS and they hate Romy more than an Ebola virus ( Lavigne, Astor...), the Forum owner - Stevewhatever - has that Lamm/Wilson combination too and tries to tell the world how fantastic it is whenever possible. He wants to show how knowledgeable he is and that spening money is the way to superior sonic Satisfaction. Ultra, ultra boring to read are his brainless sentences (In reality he does everything to hide that his Alexandrias were bought as an used, multiple times used Demo model, same with the Lamm units ...). That Forum is a Business Promotion Platform....
I saw some videos from Breuninger, I think, he is one of those guys, who really feels absolutely no pain, no matter what is going on.
That's the only way to survive that "Business"

I disagree with Stitch assessment that ML3/Alexandria combination is expensive mismatch. I do not agree that it is some kind of match as well. Everything is in the hands of a system owner and Sound that playback makes is not a reflection of brands or model but the reflection of playback owner’ awareness. I do not know if Peter Breuninger has awareness the worthy to be reflected. Sine our meeting did not take place I will never learn about it as he made his beast to conceal his awareness. Apparently the “professional audio reviewer” is able to demonstrate his awareness only via his recommendations to brainless people who do not know better to buy audio boxes. It is OK. I did not expect anything more from the people who buy Lamm ML3.

Still, I do feel that listening ML3/Alexandria might be very interesting experience. I less care about high frequency area and control in Bass – that type of assessment the people of Breuninger level shall be able to conduct. I more interested about my exoterically-subconscious capacity of ML3/Alexandria combination – the area where most of audio morons, including the stinky reviewers, do not operate. I did some controversial comments from ML3 owners and the ultimate vindication of the amp would me to spend some time with it. It did not happen in Philadelphia but I thought it might be good opportunity.

Anyhow, the trip in Philadelphia still was great audio success.  On Saturday night we hit the Academy of Music with Stokowski Audience Choice concert. It was the Philadelphia Orchestra ride over own pops program:

Bach/orch. Stokowski - Toccata and Fuguein D minor
Tchaikovsky - Selections from Suite from The Nutcracker(performed with Fantasia film)
Dukas - The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (performed with Fantasia film)
Bernstein - Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
Stravinsky - Suite from The Firebird
Wagner - "The Ride of the Valkyries,” from Die Walküre

It was a hallmark of Stokowski’s tenure and it was fun to here THAT program with that orchestra. I had very little expectations from the concert but it turned out to be surprisingly interesting. The Philadelphia Orchestra played very very very good, surprisingly good. I disagree with some interpretations – the whole Nutcracker was more like a parody but they did it with Fantasia animation and it did impacted the way they played of cause. Still, the quality and the professionalism of play were truly eyes-rising. The thru star of the show was their new conductor - Yannick Nézet-Séguin and I think the whole magnificent play that Philadelphia showed was the orchestra reaction to their new musical director who fully assumes his potion next session. I actually am looking to buy some his recording as what I heard and what I have seen made me very enthusiastic about him
