Mark,
It is hard to say. I owned T90A sometimes in 2001-2002. At that time I was going through the drivers like crazy and T90A was just one of them. Looking from now I do not think that I gave to many drivers a chance as I did not “work” them trying...

Today LeCleach 550hz arrived together with another round horn - Jabo KH-53 (350hz).I've measured 3 drivers in 550hz horn: GPA 288, JBL 2453 and JBL D2430K D2.JBL 2453 really impressed me. This is definitely best driver I ever had!Tone is perfect and ...

So in an effort to learn something about the way the 288 and S2 sound the way they do, what do you suppose the mechanical differences in the construction of each driver that causes the differences in sound as they look so similar physically?

I believe you use the laser to find out at what frequencies there are resonances and where they are at so youcan make the phase plug accordingly but like I said I know about as much as those lasers as I saw in the Tad brochure. A machinist told me on...

What I can say after audition of 2-way system with GPA 288 in 350hz horn and JBL 2453 in 550hz horn is that I like the sound without GPA 288.1-way JBL 2453 sounds terrific and 288 can't match that level. So, driver for 1200hz down is under considerati...

Back when I was searching for high frequency driver for Macondo, I went over huge amount of all imaginable drivers, which exception of some exotic Japanese, RCA, WE and Klangfilm. When Vitavox dropped to my laps I got hooked on it and after...
I thought Romy being very familiar with the S2 and also familiar with the 288 could quickly simply state a few simple observations between the two or just be honest as say he doesn't know, doesn't care, or doesn't remember...

Oh well I tried. I though I was clearly asking some easy questions about two similar drivers and the small details of what makes them sound different.
I obviously did not do a good job at this.I thought Romy being very familiar with the S2 and also...

Being a Russian by birth and inheriting all typical for Russian masochism I sometime visit the High Efficiency Speakers Asylum, laughing me sick tail off. Between the fresks in there patting each other and the mercantile cretins who pose themselv...

Well my intent in the first place was only to discuss and learn about the small details of what makes the S2 and the 288 different mechanically not to discuss system building but it seems you feel I am a little premature to discuss this as you inquir...

So are the drivers just reworked altec componets with fieldcoils installed? Or are the drivers based on the 288 and 515B design? And you are correct some may not understand this type of workmanship. Can you post a picture of the front of the horn? I ...

I would like to thank you for taking the time to give me a very satisfying answer and explain in detail your views on the whole subject and give a little more insight in to how you do things. Yes I suppose I really knew all along it was coming and w...

You could source used TAD tweeters for ~$1K pair .They sound exceptionally smooth and extended .More so than infamous T-350 and with better "tone" which may be relevant since your 288 are tonaly "dead" according to the Cat. Who knows, he may be right...
I use regular Lowther DX4 (ENABLED) . I don't think the 250-400 is stellar and I'm still waiting for the extension to try small throat for lower midrange (2,75") (B&C 8P21E driver) for 200-1000Hz .
Look...

... and, be sure, I completely agree... ONLY trying to "cut the air" and giving some understatement to a someway heavy matter - wishing to avoid any hype, which sometimes helps when reality can't be properly explained... the thread is interesting and...

Romy.Have been reading various threads to glean information on tweeter options. I read with enthusiasm your experiences with the RAAL teardrop tweeter until I saw the price, then had to change my plans.Your brief comments on the T90A ( affordable in ...

Always nice to find something that's +/- plug-and-play! IMO, Altec used to run their CD drivers/horns too low and their woofers too high, but, to be fair, I didn't know doodley in those days, and I have heard some nice tweaked installations since, wh...

have all the info ,with gallery pictures , trade secrets (how to roll on your own),pricess etc. Azura AH204 dia is ~31.5" and default depth for 8" driver ~12.75" .With 1.4" it will probably be close to 30" . Le Cleach flare is quite a bit bigge...

Thanks Romy.Sounds like tweeter on top will be best approach in my situation. The room is a good size and shape - 23ft x 15ft with 9ft ceiling . Plenty of room above. As you say the 288 on Azura does go to 12-13k OK with some beaming - almost enough re...

If there is any info in this or another post about why the S2 is so much better than the Altec 288c please direct me. If not what makes the S2 drivers so different than a 288C? (I am talking about 288'cs that the 24 ohm diaphragms have been...

Hey Romy I read your requirements of a mid bass horn. I am using jabo tratrix KH-55A(320hz) with altec 288 and I want the mid bass to go under that. I would use a trattix round midbass if it was possible. But it's just not with in my abilitys to buil...

Stefano Bertoncello's posted at his blog a comment about Tony’s playback. I do not know him; I guess he is an Italian fellow or somewhere near Italy.
