Mats, the TU-X1 is a very strange animal. If you examine the
schematic, you will find many blocking caps that are unnecessary, as well as
other areas that could be improved. I did my part at the time I was playing
with TU-X1, and I put in there MUSH better caps and a few other parts. To my great
surprise, it did not improve the sound but made the unit to sound worse. It was
a very strange, not-integrated sound. I might need to wait until all of the
parts are broken in, but I did not do it. I literally pulled the soldered-out,
super-chip Panasonic caps from the garbage can and put them back into the unit.
I did not make any attempts to improve the sound since then. I don't use my FM
unit as much nowadays. Years ago, my local classical station stopped
broadcasting in good quality, and the people who were trying with me to get
better results were no longer at the station. So, my TU-X1 is sitting collecting
dust. I probably need to sell it, but I don't want to ship it as it is superbly
aligned to a very high precision, and shipping will compromise its accuracy.
