Thanks for your reply
Which 8" driver are you using to load your AH204?  This may be a great solution from 250 hz to 1000 hz.

Development for Lynn Olson…

BTW, I have to say that I did read that Lynn Olson’s thread a few times; I think it call “Beyond Areal”. I would not vest too much into Lynn Olson’s development. I do not exactly what he does (besides entreating the DIYaudio folks) but many and many things in that thread are too bogus to take it seriously and  read one-two posts per month and never able to finish reading the posts – too absurd and too extraneous… Their methods, their judgments and their references are just too much irrelevant for the sake of Sound. Whatever the Beyond Areal will turn into, I am sure will be the very same boring Areal. It is not to mention that no one from that thread actually does the things in horns (except one guy who is persona non grata on my site) – they just run mouths on any subject, nothing else.

It may ,it may not (be a great solution)

I use regular Lowther DX4 (ENABLED) . I don't think the 250-400 is stellar and  I'm still waiting for the extension to try small throat for lower midrange (2,75") (B&C 8P21E driver) for 200-1000Hz . Here is Martin's opinion on the subject.

>I made the 204 extensions to 2.75" throat for a 6ND410 (18sound) 6"
driver
>for mid bass - I thought it worked OK, it measured OK - until I compared it
>to Lowther on 204 8" throat horn - same limited bandwidth set with a 24dB
>cross over.  The Lowther was just way ahead on sound quality - deaf man
>would have heard it.  So I gave up on that idea.

We'll see. Regards, W

Looking forward to your experience, regarding the lower mid horn.

As we are discussing Lynn Olson's new speaker, here is what it appears to have so far.

Raal tweeters 5000hz and above
Altec 288-16H with Azurahorn 1000 hz to 5000 hz
subwoofer below 80 hz
Unknown (possibly open baffle) from 80 hz to 1000 hz

160hz le´cleach...
hi wojtek!
i know, with the 160hz i may run into problems. i thought about making tractrix horns or maybe go for 400x-over with the 204´s from martin. his price is really good! i would cover the horns with something, maybe sand, maybe plaster.later.
the balkan horns, could not find anything, to you have a name or an adress?

thx,klaus

The chewing gum of Lynn Olson's new speaker

From what I see so far there is no Lynn Olson’s new speaker, there is even no concept of any speaker. There is only endless talking and talking and talking about the stupid drivers, bogus horns, the abstract idiotic measurements.  I hate the whole attitude of those people – I call it PMS Audio – a typical syndrome from the DIYers. It is like there is a DIYer guy at that site that for the last 5 years dally changes capacitors in his DAC. There is no single thought from that guys about sound, not single indication abut music – juts dally frustration and delly "resolution" about capacitors – the result for this guys is not imperative, even out of his attention but the prosess is greatly celebrated. Looking at the Lynn Olson’s saga about his “intention” to make his speaker I feel the same way… So, I feel that regardless what elements he will use he, from my view, lacks the essential viewpoints that makes speakers more than just a frequency-pushing machine.

Hi, any photos or progress reports on your 60hz horn.  If you wouldn't mind exchanging an e-mail or two I could use some help with design of rectangular horn for my Altec 515s??
Thanks,

fiogf49gjkf0d
hi rony!
sorry for the late reply, my job....
i did not start to build the horn, working on a phono stage for a friend. will start to build the 60hz horn in about 2 months. all calculations are done, should be no problem. will be made of layers of plywood and carbonfiber between the plywood sheeds. if i can help, of course i will! just send a mail and i will give you the data. but i dont know how it will sound;-)

cheers,klaus
