That looks like the show installation to me....

I'm impressed that you could tell. I thought the system it was playing through was one of the poorer ones. But the new turntable is expensive & shiny. I'm sure they'll sell plenty regardless....

Ideally, you'd want to drive 35 feet of balanced interconnect with the low impedance source ( say below 150 ohms or so). How low depends upon interconnect capacitance. You can try Jensen output transformer to convert SE to Balanced at the phono-stage...

Frankly I don't need this explanation about Najda, I know it all - only wanted to point at its existence which can not be denied. For some people it will work. For us snobs loyal to our PLLXO solution, this device can be used for some basic experimen...
Gordan, this is slightly different
concept. The presence of multiple
outputs
with volume control does not assure that each of the channel has own time delay
circuitry. Plus it look like Najda
does volume at d...
In loudspeaker and amplifier design we could use more channels to have better result (like 12 channel DSet concept) but i never seen any DAC/Pre to have more channels. It seems i am speaking about moronic idea but it is interesting ...

in the last years there was lots of development in field of DHT preamps. new circuits, or old circuits becoming practical and useful - especially related to hum inducing DHT heating issues that used to affect the sound. now you can basically have a s...

Thanks for sharing the schematics and everything else on this site. The aluminium foil shielding is accidental. It's 2.5mm sticky elastic butyl pads with aluminium backing used for car damping. I used it to damp the case and they were very effective.h...

The amps are finished. I had some minor noise and the cheater plugs did it they are completely noise free now which is very nice. The meters are a bit ugly so decided not to install them inside the case just added on top for now. Will remove them and...

I am trying to come up with a grounding scheme before I start putting everything into the case. Please have a look at the below drawing. I have tried to replicate what you did with your fullrange Melq however I am not too sure about the ground connect...

Thanks Romy. 14mA I am getting vs 15/16mA is not a large difference and the amp sounds really good as it is so I will have a break from soldering as my fingers are all burnt and listen to the amp as it is for the moment.Gintaras...

I double checked and everything seems connected ok. all parts values are correct. I have measured the voltage across R2 and it was 208V so 208v / 15k = 13.86mA. I connected 1r resistor between M and R2 and it was 14mA. also connected 1r resistor betw...

Thanks Romy.
Ok. I have installed a 30k resistor on the input and it reduced the drifting when the preamp is not connected. If my preamp is connected then I do not get any drifting at all and input voltage stays at 0v when I switch the...

Thanks for your reply.
I have double checked everything and my VR1 is connected on the positive bias side. With the input shorted I get -4.2V on the grid and it stays the same after I unshort it and adjust VR1 to 0v. Yesterday voltage was dri...

Hi Romy
I have built a Melq prototype and need some help with the bias.
This is my first tube amp build so my understanding is not great.
All parts values were used as per the 4.4 schematics. Rectifier bridges were built with Infineon SD...

I’ve gathered that this system is currently under construction somewhere in China. I haven’t been able to find any details on drivers. What can we guess from these pics? Anyone know anything about this system?...

A friend of mine showed this 5 way system at the annual enthusiasts event at Scalford Hall here in the UK.This comprises Lab Subs for LF, Some straight 80 Hz h...

"Gargoyle, YMMV, but I
associate LF propagation/amplification with mass; there has to be some
way to really "anchor" at least the LF driver. "Noted"I was thinking MF for
the felt and/or paper horns, although I guess you could begin with a

Yes, although the typical cork sheets might be too smooth and hard to apply. However if you were to crush the cork into granules... then apply to the horn, that should be feasible. Can you tell us anything about the picture you just posted? It doesn'...
You might also want to try stiffened felt, which seemed to work "as well" as the paper for me, and it is easier to form. Just saturate the pre-shaped felt with runny "paste", whether gluten/starch or methyl cellulose, milk glue...

I tried to do a google image search, but nothing appeared, maybe Romy will share.I got to pondering what benefit having the surface textured may have. It seems the texture of sharkskin for example can reduce the surface suction. From the interweb:"A s...
My results so far agree with Romy's theory, that the paper horns begin to eat energy when I used them "too low". In this case I used 4-600 Hz with 6 dB roll-off.
Thanks, this gives me somewhere to start. I am considering ...

Two things I see with that horn. The ribs will have an effect on dispersing internal reflections, positively I'm assuming. The second thing, the ribs are causing a fairly substantial increase in surface area inside the cone, it has the surface area of...

What are some of the limitations to using such a light-weight composition? (frequency, resonance etc.)I must admit the construction technique is appealing albeit somewhat slow. It lends itself to experimentation. Perhaps rather then using traditional...
So, Gargoyle, from what you
My question is: why in this picture the concept
of Acoustic Power or Acoustical Watt can advance anything? I am not being sarcastic,
I just truly do not know where to use it.

The "sound power" for a rock concert is 0.1W (~110db), lower then the 1W (120db) cited for Symphony orchestras. If ones goal is to "reproduce" symphony in all it's glory, one should aim for 1 acoustical watt at the listening position, or at least as ...

@ 10 inch low frequency drivers per side. That's "getting there" but
still not enough to produce an acoustical watt. (which horns CAN do).
