I'll never forget... although it wasn't that long ago...
Twenty years, maybe.
Symphony Hall, the Leipzigers under Masur.
And only an encore: The Egmont Overture.
After it was over I turned to my buddy and said, "I think I've just heard Beethoven for the first time!"
He agreed.
Which is to say, I'm with Romy here.
