Yes, it was my initial reaction as well. Actually it was my second reaction as my first reaction was the facts that the even the clips the NPR played clearly demonstrated that the needle pickup sounded order of magnitude better then the photo-processed.

However, then I recognized that if I have this machine in my home then the very first thing would be to photocopy a damaged records and then trying to fix the image with… a black marker! There is something fascinating for me in the idea that I can draw something and it …could be played! Do you see the far targeted objectives?
