Ah, last night, after midnight I picked in McMaster-Carr some elements for my proposed Supper Melq rack. Thy shipped it UPS ground and I had it delivered that same day! How they do it? Anyhow, I connected two shelves with 4 x 12” by 5/8” rods. I tighten it very strongly and it turns out to be very firm, very simple by quite effective rack. Actually the Super Melq on the rock become twice smaller and become very-very comfortable to deal with. However, what I was concerned if I were able to associate the mechanical noise form the power supply that sits at the bottom shelf from the top shelve with the control amplifier.

I do not do crassness listening equipment with the different isolation devises. Yes, isolation, suspension and targeted pressure applying devises do work in different ways and I experimented with them a lot in my past but in this particular case I did not care “how it sound”. All that I cared this time was the propagation of hum from PS to amplifier.

So, I put the power supply and the amp on the shelves, turned them on, armed myself with stethoscope and begin to listen. I have to mention that over the years I stupidly accumulated in my closet a load of all imaginable cones, isolators, suspenders, rolling-block, vertical bearings, decouples, creasy custom feet, some of them super high-tech with many hundreds dollars price tag. How it was time to put all this crap into work….

Without anything the bottom and top “sound” (via stethoscope heavily pressed) practically identical with the same volume. In my case PS sit on it rubber feet but I was not able to find anything of small height that would decouple it from its shelf. None of the custom feet, cones or “sliders” were effective, in fact absolutely ineffective. The mild success I got putting the PS atop of the 1.5” sorbothane sheet. It reduced the amplitude that was delved to the bottom shelf and lower frequency. Still for such a large layer of ultra low-density sorbothane I felt the effect was not worthy. So, I figured that the problem is the very high mass of the PS and I decided to let it be.  Therefore to left the PS to live right on it’s shelf and concentrated on decoupling the control amplifier form it’s second self.

Once again, not of the audiophile tricks work effectively including the large Symposium platform. The double think (3”) sorbothane did work the best but the mild noise was still auditable via stethoscope. Eventually I put atop my rock the Silent Running Audio platform. It was like magic! The control amp sitting on the SRA platform was absolutely silent. I have no idea how Kevin did it bit his platform absolutely objectively works. I can spread foolishness about sound quality with and without this platform but honestly I did not listen it. All that I was conserved to make the PS does not affect the control unit.

In the end, I am very pleased with the new Supper Melquiades sandwidge. It saved a lot of space and fits perfectly in my corners. Now I have some space fo something else… and I know it will be coming…
