According to the Dutch Audio Classics list, the iDAT 44 uses 2 TDA1549Ts, and - come to think of it - that's all I counted the one time I had the lid off my unit.

I suppose this means that the "stereo" aspect of each chip is used for the differential circuit "mirrors" in the iDAT 44 (2 X 2 = 4).

"Interesting" and too much information at the same time, if you ask me. Also interesting is the way the "bitstream" units work (AFAIK, the iDAT 44 is not a bitstream unit...), with all resources going to error correction, then feeding it back in as single bit "words". It boggles the mind, and IMO it's a miracle when any Music emerges from digital processing. If you have digital Music now, then don't mess with it!
