Hi Paul,
the Casals recording more than any other one that I have heard has a sense of musical direction. Expressions lead to the next, you never have to fill any thing in. If I were to compare what he does, it would be to the best orators at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Absolute masters of punctuation, articulation , inflection and tone of voice. His cello playing to me is like listening to a foreign language that I am good at but have not yet mastered.
