I few days ago an audio guy visited me. I under normal circumstances do not allow regular audio people of "this type"  in my listening room, but this was the situation that I needed to do it. I said the “audio people of this type”, what did I mean? Well, I meant 95% audio people - the audiophiles that I consider to be absolute waste from audio perspective and I do my very best to disassociate myself from them. They might be perfectly fine people in any other aspects but in audio they worth of my interest no more then used liter box of my Koshka. The last “audiophile” of this type was in my listening room in 2001 and I am very grateful that I do not see them, trash them at my site and do my best to disassociate myself from them.

So, I had no former knowledge about the visitor's neither listening preferences or view on audio. He informed me that he looked at my site and he has “identical views”. I recognized instantly that it was BS and that he has absolutely no idea about what I do at my site. Still, a man has to have a channce a I put him in my listening chair. I asked:

-What music do you listen?
-Everything from Classical to Metal (he said what kind metal but I do not know and remember what it was)

Well, he was an audio vendor and I was trying to solicit from him some criticism of my Sound from the perspective of his specialty, so I play to him Bach's first clavier concerto that from my perspective well demonstrates the playback intentions and capacity. His body language was horrible, the worse that I even seen. He was bored like hell and it was very unpleasant to play anything to him. We spoke business and then, being a hospitable person, I desisted to play to him something that he might enjoy. I took some blues and jazz recordings and played to him. He was happy and he asked me if I have “somebody” play drums at some kind of show live. I said that I have no idea who it was. He was extremely surprise and insisted that all audiophiles know that recording and how can I clams any advancement in audio if I do not even know who that “somebody” was.  Well, I did not even knew where to start explaining anything to my visitors. My definition of audio is so far beyond where his audio mind operates that it is like we leave at different planets.

This guy still might have a good product but I very doubt that he has capacity (audio-wise) to understand the definition of own product. Those people do not understend Sound as cultural expressive consciousness.  I meant to ask him about the fine specifics of musical interpretation of his products but I realized that it will be like misunderstood and the answers I am looking just simply do not exist at the level of “somebody playing drums somewhere”.

The point of this post is to play attention that the people like him and I both use amplifiers, loudspeakers and cables and it looks like we are in the same business. However, there are truly a million light years between us in audio. The most ironic part is that he was so surprised by the fact that I do not have the recording of  “somebody playing drums somewhere”, and so insisted that anyone has this recording that to me, it was a unmistaken evidence that any single audio-person he dealt with before was absolute audio-Moron. I do not even know where to start to explain the difference.

Romy
