I asked Romy the following question:

I'm contacting you because I own a Pacific Microsonics Two that I'm planning on using to playback high resolution digital files. I'm now in the process of choosing a platform, card and playing software. I know you use the Lynx AES16 but would like to know what OS and playback software you are using.

Originally I was thinking of using a Mac and Amarra but I've heard there's issue with large files. Also to use a Lynx card I would need a Mac Pro Tower with all it's noisy fans. With a PC there's silent options.

I've also read about the Pyramyx Software and Mykerinos card but they're hard to source and very expensive. And I'm not sure they're worth the difference vs the Lynx.

Anyway, I'd love to know what you're using and, even more, why.

Thanks,

His answer, for future reference and/or comments was:

I very much like the Lynx AES16 card. I use it for 7 year and did not have problem with it. Lynx has great technical support that is not unimportant. I do not use ASISO driver and use the Lynx original drivers – I see no sonic needs to go ASISO . In case of use Pacific Lynx is in particularly comfortable as Pacific run dual wire at 4X and Lynx has dual wire mixer.

I use Lynx in PC that I built myself and XP Pro. I did not try any other OS on DAW box. My favorite software to play files is Wavelab 6, mostly because I record in Wavelab 6. The software plays files is VERY import as the all sound VERY different. Wavelab 6 with 64bit file has no issues with large file. I play 6-8gig file very comfortably.
