Yeah, and I once thought Krell was the way to go, a boy's (or a man's) dream when I saw pictures of the KSA 100 poweramp for the first time. I must admit that in 1991 I heard a demo with Krell KAS poweramps, Wilson WATT/Puppy's + Pow Wow subwoofer and ARC LS-2 preamp which was very lifelike. Actually it was one of the best demo's I've ever heard. I guess I was one of those morons according to your vocabulary (and I might be a bigger moron these days, heheh).

Romy, what do you think of the eAR ICEpoweramps? I own four of those bastards (eAR 1001), each capable of delivering 500 Watts to 8 Ohms and 1000 Watts to 4 Ohms. They have a built in switch mode power supply. I'm using them in passive biamp mode.
Recently I'm also using AC isolation transformers (from Tamura and Audio Consulting) with good results. Those ICEpower amps are also plugged into two 1500 Watts transformers from Audio Consulting. Those amps are of course no SETs in terms of sonics but they sound better than most SS amps, including the big Krells and Levinsons. They even bettered my Accuphase A-50V class-A poweramp in certain aspects.
