If you read my site and are accustomed to some off the wall ideas that sometimes popup to my heard then you did not heard about the latest one, the most moronic of all.  I have to preface it by saying that I do not looking for any TT improvements. I pretty much will die with what I have but it does not prevent me to think conceptually about the way how it “might be” done.

From one side I have a big basement in my new home with a full scale dedicated workshop room. Paying this fall to people who blew the lines to winterize my pool and separately to blow the pipe in my sprinkling system I figures out need I to have my own powerful compressor. So, I got 20 gal high pressure compressor to have run various home needs and to run some power tools.

From another side the people who make TT use direct drives, belts, magnetic push and combination and, as it become fashionable nowadays,  the moronic rim-drive approaches. Looking how nice not to brash leaves from deck but to blow them with air I asked myself why I never seen people use air to as TT propulsion system. That might be absolutely best self-damping propulsion, would it be?

Pretend we have a platter, like Micro – heavy, metal, high-inertia platter and udder the bottom of the platter we have a trench with a hundred of small (or angled positioned) leafs (or, paddles, or blades, or fins, I have no idea how it might be called). Then we have one of more nasal (whatever the hall it called) that dispatch compressed air to the platter’s fins.  The same air might be use for suspension of the platter.

Sire this type of TT will need a manual start; it means the first spin shall be done by hand - I see no problem with this. The high- inertia of the patter will take care of the transition of driver from fin to fin.  The consistency of the fins and their curvature (they has not need to be straight) will assure that it will be no speed change on the edge of the fins.

I see it as a very cool idea, it even might be implemented the variable air-pressure regulation from the speed of the platter spinning. The most wonderful part is that any feedback that will be appalled to such a system will NOT fully close the feedback loop.

This will be a truly naturally spinning platter. Of cause the right way to do it is to put air despising nasals on the side of the platter and to use jet propulsion force but it might be a bit noisy.
