…and I do not imagine the Santa is bringing me a new pair of horns at New Year. For whatever reasons people think that there are such things as “better horns”. Also, many horn people dream about “bigger horns”. Ironically I personally do not suffer from both of those notions.

There are no such a thing as “better horns” – there are horns that do not contradict the very basic and very primitive rules of horn-loading. There is really nothing else to say here – do not make stupid and the “wishful thinking” mistakes and your horn channel will not sound improperly. Take for instance a regular 300Hz Tractrix-like, with damped-enough material, loaded with a properly aligned JBL 2440, crossed at sufficient distance from the horn cut off – it is VERY hard to make it to sound wrong. It is extremely simple but at the same time it requires to be extremely talented idiot in order to make such a channels do NOT sound appropriate. So, in my mind, the “better horns” are not the “better horns” but rather the “not stupidly made horns”.

The “bigger horns”? People who read my site know that I, opposite to many people who practice horns, do not believe to large bass horns - I feel that they violate my views of “open bottom bass channel”. I would like to see a “next after bass  channel”, I would say 50Hz horn, but I also admit that such a channel implemented properly is a huge liability and a huge amount of very difficult to resolve problems, some of those problems I have no idea how to resolve.

So, what would happen if Romy would have that huge lathe sitting in my backyard and have the skills to make any horns or any dimension? I think it would change absolutely nothing. The horns themselves are very easy and very none-restrictive part of the entier sage of horn-installation.

If I do have any “wet dreams” about the horn-loaded acoustic systems then it would be a discovery/development of some kind of “another” horn driver that sound very different from any other drivers that I have seen. I know very exactly what I would need from that driver but it is a whole another story…. The big lathe will hardly be useful to answer this wet dream.
