Or is the answer very simple, in terms that some people just like tweeters with metal character? I have not heard the Supravox, but it has the usual breakup above the audio band, even a bit stronger than other metal domes, CSD from 4kHz up is not slow, but very uneven. I heard the Watt/Puppy, didn`t like the midrange too much, but I find the real weak point is the titanium dome. David Wilson seems to like it.

.. and I have no problem with “few” of the metal domes implementations. I wonder if David Wilson “preference” for metal domes derives from the fact the he needs an aggressive upper range to get equilibrium to the noise of Wilson ports coming from Wilson’s LF section. I would agree that in context of “neutral” LF the metal done cones mostly sound too “contrived”… unless they are pure copper domes… (!) Also, if the LF section is capable for a reasonable “Absolute Tone” (Oh, shut up, morricab! :-) then the metal domes is too easy solution to neutralize the “Absolute Tone”…

Copper domes???

The Lansche is one of the speakers I would like to hear. Is it sonically useful to cross an ionic tweeter at 1.5kHz?

Is it true that a RAAL sounds more like an ionic tweeter than like a ribbon?

Here is the CSD of the Supravox:

Yes, the pure copper domes. The nee a LOT of power to drive them though but they do very wonderfully if you do.

I do not believe in any tweeter that is crossed at 1.5kHz

I really do not know. It sounds to me as purely speculative subject. I do not know how RAAL ribbons sound and I am not a big fan of ionic tweeters as I never seen them to work successfully with any other type of transducer.

I have heard them work very well with the Lansche Goa speaker but less successfully with Acapella. I think you should give one a try with your system Romy, although the ribbon you use now is likely to be very good.

Among the contemporary ion tweeters I heard only with Acapellas, multiple times, never was happy with the results as the tweeters sounded as different drivers to the enter speaker. Also in a past I bought on eBay a number of vintage ion tweeters – there were complete garbage. I have no frustration as now with tweeters; although I have some idea how to slightly improve my current Water Drop. I do have the frustrations with the damn APS PurePower people that for 4 months can’t furnish me with a properly functioning regenerator!!!!!! At the level where my tweeter operates now it is virtually imposable to drive it from the dirty walls (I live in downtown of Boston)

If you contact the guy he will probably tell you where it is from.  It is good and it is a bigger flame than the one used by Acapella.  The ion tweeters absolutely need clean power AND need to be isolated from the rest of your system as they dump enormous amounts of RF back into the power line.  This is probably why what you heard from Acapella didn't sound good.

As another alternative, what about an electrostatic tweeter?  They work very well and can be made with high sensitivity.  Just a thought...
