Hello everyone,

I am thinking about building the full range Melquiades amp. I have inexpensive speakers meadowlark kestrel hot rod (88dB). I am planning on replacing the speakers, however, I am not sure when. My question is - should I even try the Melquiades with these speakers?

Cheers!

seavan,

I would not recommend to get Milq to use with 88dB sensitive speakers. In fact it might be dangers for the speakers tweeters. You will not have any interesting sound even is you in a very small room and will be listening at very low volume. I think for a mid size room you would need neat 100dB sensitively at LF to start get any more or less acceptable (or predictabvle) sound.

Romy, thanks a lot for your response. I have no idea how come I did not come across your website years ago. I found it a few days ago and I spent many hours reading it. I am greatly intrigued by the Milq and I have some follow up questions, I hope some of them are specific enough and you can answer them.

1. What is wrong with 88dB speakers besides sensitivity? I have 25W amp that I use at half power most of the time. I understand that I can build Milq with larger transformer to produce that power. It maybe borderline but it would let me try the Milq before I get sensitive speakers.

2. I read more than once on your postings that 6C33C is not the only tube that can be used for the Milq. Do you think GM70 can be a good alternative for higher power Milq? I would love to give it a try but I am very rusty in the schematics and I would need some help.

3. I will be looking for new speakers. What specifically should I be looking for in the speakers? Any recommendation considering low budget? I apologize if this has been answered in your posts, I am slowly going through them.

Thanks so much!
