Hi, I'll be out in SF next week, any recommendations on interesting audio types to visit? I would be very interested in listening to reasonably-intelligent reasonably-efficient (i have small listening room) non-horn set-ups??Thanks for any tips

Rony, as I underrated from California to France you would not find a direct fly and it would be a landing some in East Cost. Would it be a different time then I would invite you to lend in Boston and spend some time with me. Unfortunately for audio interests it is not good time to wising me. My playback is still up but this week I most likely will be tearing it down. The new room will not be ready for a month or more, so I am out of the game for a while.

California and SF has a lot of horn enthusiasts is I remember but you are looking for non-horn set-ups. I wonder what you might hear in SF that you will not be able to hear in Lyon? I do not think of anything. The next week in SF Davies Symphony Hall Herbert Blomstedt will conducts Beethoven's Eroica with Haydn’s Cello Concerto – it might be an interesting concert in a new for your hall.

hi romy, thanks for invite and one of these days I will come by with the guigal cote rotie, st. marcelin cheese and a few cigars thatwe can still buy legally.  The non-horn idea was for a second system in a very large room and i want a store bought solution (which is notpossible for horns).  I thought maybe the americans had some kit other than the usual english solutions (tannoy, kef, proac, living voice, harbeth) that i can't find in france.R weissman

I live in San Francisco, of course. I have a horn system as everyone knows and a smaller standard electrodynamic system, which is no longer made. As everything is heavily customized. I do not think it will suit your purposes. However, what is absolutely a great idea is to visit Warren Gregoire.

Warren has a lot of very interesting equipment, basically he is an audio enthusiast who got involved with speakers and now he distributes a few specific items. There is no storefront, but Warren has the equipment set up in his house and arranges for private listening sessions. Of interest are the coherent line source tweeters and the Decca Reference cartridge (which is my personal favorite). His Ikonoklast speaker line is well suited to small listening rooms. I have spent a good deal of time listening over at his house, and I guarantee it is worth the trip. No question, the sound is geared toward the bass-shy inner-detail focus crowd, but it is still not to be missed!

Rony, I know a few guys with horns installations in SF and if visit the city again then I might go there if I feel too bored and if they won’t be too frightened (as most of audio people unfortunates are).  I do not think that you will find any “store bought solutions” different in SF then what might be offered in France. Do you have a large room and looking for second SS system?  Do you feel that the dollar is so weak that it makes sense to fish in US? There is guy running around Colorado who is selling Dunleavy left over (at least he claims that they are Dunleavy). The models 3 and 4A might be worth looking. They are cheap nowadays….

hi,adrien - yes warren looks like interesting visit though not sure it's the solution i am looking for in second system, i was hoping for something that could offer bass solution store-bought since i have been now 8-years tryingto get horn system to play bottom with authority and tone with no luck.Romy - dunleavy would be more than adequate solution i had forgotten about these, if i remember you have talked severaltimes in past that his speakers can have properly implemented bass solutions in certain conditions, you are right I am ;ookingto profit from exchange rate on some used gear. shipping rates are onerous but sometimes i use airport to airport freight if the shipperis willing. thanks.r weissman
